The City of Casey is pleased to announce that infrastructure works have commenced at Ray Bastin Reserve in Narre Warren, to deliver a revitalised regional park the whole community will enjoy.
The extensive works include an upgrade to the existing playground equipment, skate park and BMX track. The project will also see the inclusion of a range of new active and passive experiences adding to the appeal and utilisation of the reserve.
City of Casey Chair of Administrators Nolene Duff PSM said "the transformation of Ray Bastin Reserve reflects Council's commitment to providing amenities for the community to be active, healthy and connected.
"Council extensively engaged the community during planning to ensure the project echoed their requirements and suggestions," she said.
This included talks with senior community members, who provided input into the exercise equipment. Discussions were also held with Aboriginal Elders reference groups to help formulate the park's connection to Country, which will be realised through native vegetation landscaping, play elements and reflection spaces."
Catering to all ages and levels of fitness, the new elements include:
- a fitness circuit
- outdoor fitness equipment - including an area with dedicated equipment for older adults
- a multi-use court with both netball and basketball rings
- a barbecue
- picnic space with shelters and seating
- upgrades to the existing public toilets
Council received $1.6 million in funding for the project via the Victorian Government's Growing Suburbs Fund, and $250,000 from Sports and Recreation through their Local Sport Infrastructure Fund. Council contributed $1.495 million towards the project.
During the construction, which is due to be completed next year, parts of the reserve will be unavailable to the public.
