Transforming Bendigo Health For Whole Community

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is continuing its transformation of Bendigo Health - demolishing old, disused buildings to make way for 4,000 square metres of green space that will benefit the health and wellbeing of patients, visitors and the dedicated health workforce.

Premier and Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan and Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards visited the demolition site to see where the green space will take shape - adding the finishing touch to the new $63.5 million Clinical Services Campus that is already delivering better care to the community.

Major demolition is underway on the former John Lindell Rehabilitation Unit, while the hospital's old east and north wing towers will be demolished in the coming months.

Located in the heart of Bendigo, this brand-new green space will also be available for the community to enjoy, with more than 1,500 new native and indigenous plants and trees.

The services, previously accommodated in the soon-to-be-demolished buildings, were moved into the state-of-the-art Clinical Services Campus in late 2023 - with the building officially opened by the Premier in 2024.

The Bendigo Health campus now accommodates a range of critical services under one roof, including a hydrotherapy pool and specialist clinics, providing outpatient rehabilitation, allied health, dental, mental health, renal dialysis, breast screening and diabetes education.

With all services now in one central location, hardworking allied health professionals are benefiting from working closely together to improve health outcomes for their patients, ensuring families have the best of care under one roof in the heart of Bendigo.

The project is being delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority and builds on the Labor Government's $630 million Bendigo Hospital redevelopment, which is due for completion in early 2026.

As stated by Premier and Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan

"The demolition of the old, disused buildings and the addition of green space will be the perfect finishing touch to our state-of-the-art hospital precinct - that has already completely transformed care for Bendigo locals."

As stated by Minister for Health Infrastructure Melissa Horne

"The new green space at Bendigo Health will complete the transformation of the health precinct - it will particularly benefit patients, visitors and our dedicated health workers by providing a calming and therapeutic place to enjoy."

As stated by Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards

"With 1,500 new native and indigenous plants and trees, the green space at the Clinical Services Campus will be a welcome addition to the centre of Bendigo - offering a new place for the community to enjoy."
