A Griffith University travel research trial has offered up to 500 discounted two-day transport passes, which will provide Brisbane Open House explorers unlimited access to public transport, e-scooters and e-bikes for just $15.
Delivered via the ODIN PASS app, the research aims to help the tourism and events industry create more sustainable transport solutions for our cities.
In partnership with ODIN PASS and Neuron Mobility, the special pass will help visitors travel between event locations during the two-day event.
Brisbane Open House is a free annual event that provides residents and visitors with the unique opportunity to discover the hidden wealth of architecture, engineering, and history in buildings and places around Brisbane city.
In 2024, more than 50 buildings will be open to explore, along with a comprehensive program of guided walks, public talks, workshops, and live music.
Leading the project, Advance Queensland Industry Research Fellow at the Cities Research Institute and the Griffith Institute for Tourism, Dr Abraham Leung, said the model could be the future for managing mega-events such as the Olympics and Paralympics in 2032.
"We are excited to trial this Queensland-developed Mobility-as-a-Service program at a large-scale event for the first time," Dr Leung said.
"The app helps users to navigate around South East Queensland with a journey planner to plan trips with more cost certainty.
"The two-day pass should work particularly well for events such as Brisbane Open House where enthusiastic participants are visiting many locations over the course of the weekend."
ODIN PASS CEO Dr Jake Whitehead said the program has already been successfully trialed at The University of Queensland with great success.
"Our aim is to provide equitable transport bundles which encourage a shift toward active, shared, and public transport," Dr Whitehead said.
"We are excited to partner with Griffith University to explore how our innovative transport offers can support events such as Brisbane Open House."
Dr Leung's Advance Queensland Industry Research Fellowship is funded by Advance Queensland, Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads, Brisbane City Council, Townsville City Council and micromobility operators (Neuron and Beam).
