Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has today re-opened the Region's major dams in Cooby (Loveday Cove) and Cressbrook for recreation activities following recent wet weather.
TRC Parks and Recreation Services portfolio leader Cr Tim McMahon said the public could now access all three dams after Council crews completed operational clean-up of debris, preparation of signage and water quality testing.
"Debris from the recent rain events is now cleared, key infrastructure has been checked and new signage installed to allow dam users to access these facilities.
"Cooby and Cressbrook are open to allow secondary contact activities such as fishing and boating.
"The water quality in these dams remains poor due to recent inflows and visitors should keep contact with the water to a minimum. Swimming is never permitted at any of our dams and children in particular must stay clear of the water.
"Activities such as sailboards, stand-up paddle boarding and windsurfing remains restricted at Cooby and Cressbrook due to the water quality.
"Perseverance Dam is open to approved user groups for all water activities including primary contact activities.
"I want to thank Council's Parks and Recreation Services Officers who have worked tirelessly to make these wonderful public assets available to the public again after what has been extreme circumstances for the past six months with extended periods of wet weather," Cr McMahon said.
