Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has resolved to put its former Middle Ridge nursery site out to an expression of interest and tender process for a potential sale.
At this week's Ordinary Meeting of Council, Councillors resolved to enter into a staged approach to potentially sell the prime site.
Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald said Council expects significant interest in the site from developers and investors.
"This is another example that during this term of Council, we continue our determination to do things differently for better.
"Council's former nursery site is a 2-hectare parcel in Middle Ridge and zoned 'low-medium density residential'. Council is confident it will attract significant interest.
"The site adjoins an existing park on one boundary, is substantially level and connected to all urban infrastructure with two road access points," Mayor McDonald said.
"Council resolved this week to enter a two-stage expression of interest and tender process.
"This will allow developers and investors an opportunity to submit their best offers and future plans for the site.
"Council will then evaluate those offers based on more than just price.
"We are particularly interested to see future intent from developers and/or investors based around design outcomes, concept plans, financial capability, innovation and alignment with the planning scheme," he said.
"The process Council has chosen to adopt to divest the site will allow for transparency while giving us the ability to negotiate terms such as development commitments, timeframes for key milestones and settlement periods.
"We are excited by the prospect of seeing this site potentially come to life through the process," he said.
Council is expected to advertise for initial expressions of interest in coming months.
