Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is offering partial financial relief to residents and families whose fixed monuments at the Drayton and Toowoomba Cemetery were vandalised in early August.

Toowoomba Region Mayor Cr Geoff McDonald said Council was keen to work with residents and their families who had been devastated by the senseless destruction of memorials at the cemetery.

Mayor McDonald said Council's Cemetery Services Team had completed an evaluation of the Cemetery and compiled a list of the damaged sites. Please visit, www.tr.qld.gov.au/cemeterylistings

"Family members or people connected to any of the identified sites who wish to reinstate the site are asked to please contact our Cemetery Services Team on (07) 4688 6686," Mayor McDonald said. (The Queensland Police Service would also like a list of affected parties as the investigation continues).

"Our Cemetery Services Team is available to help people who have been affected by this unfortunate event.

"Council will remove and rectify hazards to meet workplace health & safety requirements. This will include placing monuments flat and face up for the safety of the community.
