Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has been preparing the Region's water network in anticipation of potential impacts from severe weather as a result of Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

Power outages can interrupt water supply but Council has filled water reservoirs across the Region to maximise the amount of treated water available to mitigate against disruptions so we can continue to supply homes.

Portfolio spokesperson for Strategic Water Planning and Capital Delivery Deputy Mayor Cr Rebecca Vonhoff said Council had taken all precautions to ensure the Toowoomba Region is ready.

"We have been busy preparing our water network, so we are ready for a number of different outcomes. We have thought about all the possible impacts of TC Alfred, and we have focused on ensuring our community has ample clean drinking water. We also have our water and wastewater maintenance teams ready to respond," Cr Vonhoff said.

TRC are also encouraging residents to take some actions to ensure they are as prepared as they can be.

What you can do:

- Have some water stored in case of localised unplanned water supply outages. This water can be used for drinking, manually flushing toilets or maintaining personal hygiene

- Check your Overflow Relief Gully (ORG) to prevent your house flooding with wastewater. This device looks like a grate and can be found on the ground outside your home, within your boundary. Check your ORG is not covered or blocked and ensure the lid can pop off if needed.

- Please report any overflows and dislodged maintenance hold lids (lids which are used to cover access into stormwater and wastewater systems). In extreme weather, wastewater system maintenance lids can become overwhelmed, causing lids to lift and creating an overflow into the streets. Maintenance lids are designed to do this, however it is important to remain safe and stay clear from the overflow.

- Only flush toilet paper. This may seem like common sense however it is really important to remember as any other items which are flushed can easily cause blockages, damaging your plumbing and creating serious issues at our wastewater treatment plants.

- Remember dirty water is common after at outage. If you do experience dirty water when you turn your tap on, please run your outside tap closest to your water meter until the water runs clear.

The TRC Customer Service Call Centre will remain open over the weekend. Call 131 872 to report any water and wastewater issues.

In case of a life-threatening emergency call 000.
