The National Capital Authority (NCA) will remove and replace trees in the National Library of Australia (NLA) carpark across the month of February 2025.
Those travelling to the NLA should be aware that while the works are occurring sections of the carpark will be temporarily closed, allowing the works to occur safely.
The current 81 trees have been identified as failing and the removal will help reduce the risk of the trees causing damage through fallen branches.
After removal the NCA will then plant 60 new trees in the carpark. The new trees cover three species; Chinese pear, Black tupelo and Japanese zelkova. These species have been chosen as they are similar to the trees being removed however they provide better shade coverage across the carpark.
As part of the NCA's commitment to tree canopy targets across the estate, 21 trees will be planted in Commonwealth Park, to compliment the total trees that have been removed.
