Council will undertake major works at the front of the Jubilee Oval due to tree roots endangering historic structures within the ground.
Roots from the row of Ficus trees on Silver Street are causing significant damage to the concrete foundation of the Grandstand and bleachers, and could leave the structures unsafe if action is not taken.
The trees will be removed and replanted within the oval grounds around the northern and southern carparks. A less invasive species will planted in their place along Silver Street.
Council's General Manager, Jay Nankivell, said he was glad the trees would be preserved.
"It's a shame to see the trees moved as they do look great lining the grandstand, but unfortunately they're proving to be too much of a problem," he said.
"There's a lot of history at that oval that we have a responsibility to protect, and thankfully the trees can be used to green up the oval outskirts.
"Having the area closed off for work will also give us an ideal chance to carry out some much needed kerb and footpath replacement.
"We'd like to thank AFLBH for their cooperation and understanding on this project."
The combined cost for tree replanting, footpath and kerb replacement, and new tree planting is expected to be approximately $425,000.
