Funds are prioritized in the areas of healthcare, food security, childcare for essential workers, and education.
LOS ALAMOS, N.M., April 7, 2020—Triad National Security, the management and operations contractor of Los Alamos National Laboratory, has pledged $50,000 to four local philanthropies to address emergency needs caused by the COVID-19 public health crisis. Funds are prioritized in the areas of healthcare, food security, childcare for essential workers, and education.
"These community partners are experts in responding to the urgent needs of their respective communities," said Thom Mason, president of Triad National Security. "They have proven track records of mobilizing resources quickly and delivering relief effectively."
Three of the four recipients are community foundations. Community foundations are grant-making public charities dedicated to improving the lives of people in a given geographic area. Thus, the three foundations will use grants to disperse Triad's donations through local nonprofits to fund services for the people who need them.
About the recipients:
- Los Alamos Community Foundation, COVID-19 Nonprofit Emergency Response, $10,000. Established in 2015, the focus of the Los Alamos Community Foundation is inspiring, facilitating, and supporting enduring philanthropy. Funds will support nonprofits in Los Alamos and Rio Arriba counties.
- Santa Fe Community Foundation COVID-19 Response Fund, $22,000. The Santa Fe Community Foundation is devoted to building healthy, vital communities where racial, cultural, and economic differences do not limit access to health, education, or employment. Funds will serve nonprofits in Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, and Santa Fe counties.
- Taos Community Foundation COVID-19 Response Fund, $8,000. Over the last 20 years, Taos Community Foundation has awarded more than $9.3 million in grants and scholarships that enrich the lives of its citizens. Funds will serve nonprofits in Taos County.
- The Food Depot, $10,000. Before COVID-19, The Food Depot provided more than 430,000 meals a month to the most vulnerable members of the community via drive-through food pantries open to the public and a network of nonprofit partners across Northern New Mexico. Now, the number of meals needed is estimated to have doubled. Funds will support residents of Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Santa Fe, and Taos counties. Also, Los Alamos National Laboratory employees have thus far raised an additional $34,956 for The Food Depot via their online drive, which continues through April 10.
