Police have charged three boys after an alleged aggravated carjacking in Altona Meadows early hours this morning.
It is alleged that three offenders ran towards a man in a carpark on Central Avenue about 12.30am.
Despite the man attempting to seek refuge in his silver Toyota Rav4, he was not able to lock his car doors.
Police allege that one offender climbed into the front seat of the Toyota brandishing a hammer, while a second offender jumped into the back seat and made demands for the victim's phone, car keys and cash.
The first offender allegedly struck the victim with a hammer.
The 51-year-old Point Cook man did not suffer any physical injuries.
The victim managed to get out of his car and take off from the alleged offenders.
The three offenders allegedly fled the scene in the Toyota towards Queen Street.
The Toyota was then spotted allegedly crashing into a fence on Honeysuckle Court.
The trio allegedly dumped the Toyota and took off on foot.
Fast acting Altona and Williamstown police officers arrested three boys shortly after.
Police searched the Toyota and seized a hammer and two edged weapons.
A 15-year-old Hoppers Crossing boy, a 15-year-old Altona Meadows boy and a 14-year-old Altona Meadows boy were each charged with aggravated carjacking, attempted armed robbery and traffic offences.
The three were bailed to appear before a children's court at a later date.
