Triple-Zero Failure Leaves Victorians Stranded

Liberal Party Victoria

Victorians in need of emergency support have been left on hold for up to 23 minutes during this week's extreme weather.

Leaked Triple-Zero records have shown a backlog of up to 200 calls on Tuesday, with six-minute delays for police, more than one minute for firefighters and 23 minutes for State Emergency Service support.

Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, Richard Riordan, said Victorians expected the Government to properly fund and resource the Triple-Zero call service.

"Under Jacinta Allan, Victoria is broke. Labor can't manage money and Victorians are paying the price for a woefully under-resourced Triple-Zero service at a time when they need it the most.

"It's not good enough to have 24 hours warning and still not have staffed the emergency call service adequately, sending text messages for more staff mid-afternoon in the middle of an emergency.

"If a catastrophic fire day is called, why on earth is Triple-Zero left without maximum staffing levels?"
