A tropical low is gradually developing northwest of Darwin as it tracks slowly to the south. Should the system remain off the coast for long enough tomorrow it may briefly reach category 1 tropical cyclone intensity before it takes a turn to the east southeast and moves over land.
Heavy rain is likely across the Tiwi Islands, Cobourg Peninsula, northern Daly District and northwest Arnhem District tonight and tomorrow.
Gales with gusts to 100km/h may develop between Point Stuart and the Western Australia and Northern Territory border including Darwin, during Sunday depending on the track of the system.
Tides will be higher than normal on the coast on the Tiwi Islands and also between Point Stuart and Wadeye.
