Works on the new Trundle skate park have officially been completed with the facility now open for the community to enjoy.
This project was funded by Round 3 of the NSW Government's Stronger Country Communities Fund for $150,000, the Trundle Progress Association for $20,000 and Trundle Town Improvement Vote from Parkes Shire Council for $8,000 and Parkes Shire Council for $10,000.
The skate park consists of a number of elements which were designed after consultation with school-aged children. Further consultation was undertaken by the Trundle Community Consultative Committee at the Trundle Show where youth members of the community were invited to suggest their priority projects for their township. The skate park was identified as the number one project.
Councillor Ken Keith OAM, Mayor of Parkes Shire expressed his delight over the completion of this project.
"Despite some delays due to Covid lockdowns, ongoing wet weather conditions and natural disasters, we are pleased to have been able to bring this much-needed and much-wanted facility to the community of Trundle."
"The skate park offers the youth of the town another opportunity to engage with a new active lifestyle option, a social outlet to build friendships and an opportunity to learn new skills," he added.
Many elements were involved in the delivery of this project including bulk earthworks, civil design work, supply and installation of solid surfaces, supply and installation of ramps, profiles, steps and blocks, fabrication and installation of cast items, as well landscaping.
Now installed in the Berryman Oval precinct, the skate park adds to the delivery of the grant-funded projects that Parkes Shire Council has secured and has installed in this location. These include new exercise equipment (also funded by the Stronger Country Communities Fund) and new cricket nets (funded by the Australian Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program)," he added.
