Two people have been arrested after their car was spiked during a pursuit along the South Eastern Freeway this morning, according to SA Police.
About 2am Saturday 14 July patrols spotted a Silver Volvo acting suspiciously around the Murray Bridge area however they lost sight of the car at the time.
Later, about 3.50am Murray Bridge police spotted the Volvo again on Old Swanport Road travelling at speed and attempted to stop the car, however it took off at speed away from them. Patrols did not engage in a police pursuit at this time and the car was last seen travelling toward Adelaide on the South Eastern Freeway.
Mount Barker patrols waited for the car on the Freeway however it never arrived at their location so a search commenced along the Old Princes Highway. A short time later a patrol spotted the Volvo travelling on the Old Princes Highway at Nairne, it will be alleged at this time the car drove toward police officers who were on the side of the road, there were no physical injuries to the officers.
The Volvo again took off at speed driving back onto the South Eastern Freeway and police commenced pursuing the vehicle north bound toward Adelaide.
Eastern District patrols were able to successfully spike the car on the Freeway, near the Toll Gate, however the car continued north on Portrush Road at slow speeds before it came to a stop near Hay Road in Linden Park. As police approached the car it collided with the side of a police car causing minor damage.
Police deployed capsicum spray during the arrest of the driver and passenger and they were apprehended without further incident.
The driver, a 19-year-old Salisbury Downs man, has been charged with a number of offences including aggravated drive dangerous, acts to endanger life, drive disqualified and breach of bail.
The passenger, a 17-year-old girl, is expected to be charged this morning.
