Two Arrested in Ongoing Rowville Fatal Crash Probe

Police have arrested two teenagers in relation to an alleged aggravated burglary in which one of the vehicles stolen was later involved in a fatal collision in Rowville on the weekend.

Two people died after their vehicle struck a tree on Kelletts Road about 2.35am on Sunday, 30 March.

Investigations revealed the Toyota Yaris they were travelling in was one of two vehicles allegedly stolen from Emica Parade, Knoxfield, in the hours leading up to the crash.

Knox Crime Investigation Unit detectives, who have carriage over the aggravated burglary investigation, arrested a 14-year-old boy from the Knox area in Wodonga today.

Police will allege the boy was an occupant of the second vehicle, a Honda Accord, which was recovered in Keysborough on 1 April.

He has subsequently been charged with aggravated burglary, two counts of theft of motor vehicle, drive at speed dangerous, unlicensed driving and commit indictable offence while on bail.

He will face a children's court at a later date.

This arrest comes after a 17-year-old boy from the Knox area, also believed to be an occupant of the second vehicle, handed himself into police on 1 April.

He has since been released and is expected to be charged on summons with aggravated burglary and theft of motor vehicle.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives, who have carriage over the fatal crash, have determined the second vehicle was not directly involved in the crash.

They have identified one of the deceased teenagers as a 16-year-old boy from the Knox area.

The second boy who died is yet to be formally identified.

Investigations remain ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or with dashcam/CCTV footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
