A man and a woman have been charged following a pursuit in New England and Manning Great Local Area Commands, which ended after police deployed road spikes yesterday afternoon, NSW Police say.
About 3pm yesterday (Friday 10 November 2017), officers attached to the Western Region Highway patrol attempted to stop a Volkswagen Golf on the New England Highway, Armidale.
When the Volkswagen Golf did not stop, a pursuit began.
The car travelled through a number of streets and when the pursuit reached the township of Uralla the pursuit was later terminated due to safety concerns.
Shortly after, the car was sighted on Thunderbolts Way, Gloucester.
A second pursuit commenced on Cravens Flat Road, and was also terminated due to safety concerns.
The car allegedly failed to stop for a third time on Bowmans Creek Road, Gloucester.
During the pursuit, officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command successfully deployed road spikes, before the car was stopped on Bowmans Creek Road.
The driver, a 21-year-old woman, and passenger a 25-year-old man, were both arrested and taken to Taree Police Station.
No one was injured during the incident.
The 21-year-old woman was charged with police pursuit not stop (Skye’s law), plates calculated to deceive, drive in a manner dangerous, exceed speed over 45km/hr, unregistered motor vehicle, and not stop vehicle when directed to do so.
The 25-year-old man was charged with dishonestly obtain property by deception, use unregistered motor vehicle and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.
Both were refused bail to appear at Taree Bail Court today, (Saturday 11 November 2017).
