Detectives have charged two inmates as part of an ongoing investigation into the introduction of contraband into a correctional facility in Sydney's north-west.
In April this year, detectives from the Corrective Services Investigation Unit established Strike Force Bundawarrah to investigate reports of corrupt activity by a male correctional officer.
So far during the investigation, detectives have charged five people including a 26-year-old man, who is a correctional officer, a 34-year-old woman and three male inmates, aged 23, 30 and 31. All five remain before the courts.
As part of ongoing investigations, officers identified that two male inmates had access to a mobile phone while at the correctional facility.
Following further inquiries, detectives attended a correctional facility in Sydney's east about 1pm on Monday 6 July 2020.
Two male inmates – aged 36 and 39 – were issued Court Attendance Notices for use or possess mobile phone/part in place of detention.
Both men were remanded in custody and are due to appear at Blacktown Local Court today (Monday 12 October 2020).
Investigations under Strike Force Bundawarrah are continuing.
