Two men have been charged and a critical incident investigation is underway following several linked incidents in Sydney’s south west yesterday., NSW Police say>
Police responded to a reported domestic violence-related incident involving a man and woman outside a home on Dwyer Road, Leppington, about 7.30am (Friday 31 August 2018).
A resident who attempted to intervene was threatened with a firearm and a shot was fired towards him. No one was injured.
A Subaru WRX and utility left that scene and were subsequently involved in a police pursuit towards Edmondson Park. That pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.
The utility was later sighted at the intersection of Corfield Road and Camden Valley Way at Edmondson Park, where it crashed into a Suzuki Swift about 8.10am.
A 43-year-old woman driving the Suzuki Swift sustained head injuries and has been taken to Liverpool Hospital.
Two men, aged 29 and 36, travelling in the utility were arrested and a loaded firearm seized.
Both men were taken to Camden Police Station where they were charged.
The 29-year-old man was charged with ten offences, including common assault, fire firearm likely to injure persons/property, discharge firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, negligent driving, not give particulars to other driver, drive motor vehicle while licence suspended, possess loaded firearm public place, possess unregistered unauthorised pistol in public place, possess unauthorised pistol, and possess unregistered firearm.
The 36-year-old man was charged with aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm- escaping, hinder apprehension of person who committed serious offence and conceal serious indictable offence of another.
Both men were refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 1 September 2018).
A critical incident team comprising officers from Cumberland Police Area Command will investigate the circumstances surrounding the motor vehicle crash. That investigation will be subject to independent review.
