Two men have been charged following a pursuit with a stolen car in the Manning-Great Lakes area yesterday, NSW Police say.
Just before 9am (Tuesday 6 November 2018), patrolling police sighted the stolen Mitsubishi ASX travelling north on the Pacific Highway at Coopernook.
Police attempted follow the car, however, it accelerated onto the incorrect side of the road and the pursuit was terminated.
About 10am, the vehicle was seen on the Pacific Highway at Cundletown.
Police initiated a further pursuit; however, it was terminated due to the manner of driving.
The car was seen again at Bundook where the driver attempted to evade police, driving onto a grass verge and into a culvert. The car came to a stop and two men were arrested.
The driver, a 33-year-old man, was taken to Taree Police Station.
He was charged with take and drive conveyance, police pursuit – not stop, aggravated break and enter in company (x2), malicious damage (x3), larceny (x4), drive speed/manner dangerous, never licensed and fraud.
His passenger, a 29-year-old man, was taken to Forster Police Station.
He was charged with be carried in a conveyance, aggravated break and enter in company (x2), malicious damage (x2), and larceny (x5).
Both men were refused bail to appear at Forster Local Court today (Wednesday 7 November 2018). They have both been remanded to reappear at the same court on Tuesday 20 November 2108.
Manning-Great Lakes Police District Commander Superintendent Shane Cribb said this is a great example of the dedication of police in this district.
"Our officers are committed to driving down crime in this area," Superintendent Cribb said.
"We will continue to arrest offenders and put them before court and focus on keeping the community safe."
