Two Charged for Property, Driving Offences in Mid North

A man and woman have been charged over alleged property and driving offences following a pursuit near Kempsey yesterday morning.

About 5am yesterday (Wednesday 28 January 2025), police attempted to stop Subaru Forester in South Kempsey.

Police will allege in court that the vehicle had been stolen from Ballina and had been engaged in a pursuit earlier that morning.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated; however, was subsequently terminated due to the manner of driving.

Another pursuit was briefly initiated and again terminated due to the manner of driving.

About 7.30am (Wednesday 28 January 2025), police located the vehicle in South Kempsey after it rolled when the driver allegedly tried to drive through a fence.

The 33-year-old driver of the vehicle and his passenger, a woman aged 25, were arrested at the scene and taken to Kempsey Police Station.

The man was charged with three counts of police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence in company, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.

An outstanding warrant was also executed for an earlier DV-related matter.

He was refused bail to appear before Port Macquarie Local Court yesterday (Tuesday 28 January 2025), where he was formally refused bail to appear before Lismore Local Court on Monday 3 February 2025.

The woman was charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence in company, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm, and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.

She was refused bail to appear before Port Macquarie Local Court yesterday (Tuesday 28 January 2025), where she was formally refused bail to appear before the same court tomorrow (Thursday 30 January 2025).
