Two Charged in Albury Break-In, Operation Mongoose

Two boys have been charged with "post and boast" offences after four people were arrested over an alleged armed break and enter and pursuit in North Albury at the weekend, as part of Operation Regional Mongoose.

Operation Regional Mongoose is a high-visibility police operation to tackle serious property-related crime, committed predominately by young offenders.

Police were called to a home in Fairview Drive, North Albury, about 2.20am last Sunday (2 February 2025), following reports of a break and enter.

Officers attached to Murray River Police District arrived on scene and were told four people – one allegedly armed with a knife – had entered the home and threatened a 70-year-old woman, demanding her car keys before stealing her SUV.

The woman was shaken but unharmed.

A crime scene was established and an investigation commenced.

About 4am the same day, officers attached to Murray River Police District sighted the SUV on Logan Road, North Albury.

A pursuit was initiated but terminated a short time later, after losing sight of the car.

Police will allege a passenger was filming the pursuit.

A short time later, another pursuit was initiated on Kaitlers Road, Lavington, but was terminated due to safety concerns.

About 2.30am yesterday (Monday 3 February 2025), police arrested two boys, aged 11 and 13, and a 14-year-old girl on Resolution Street, North Albury.

They were taken to Albury Police Station where they have been charged.

The 11-year-old boy was charged with commit s154A offence and disseminate (post and boast), aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence – armed, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

He was granted conditional bail to appear in a children's court on Monday 17 March 2025.

The 13-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl were both charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence – armed, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

The 13-year-old boy was granted conditional bail to appear in a children's court Monday 10 February 2025.

The 14-year-old girl was granted conditional bail to appear in a children's court next Thursday (13 February 2025).

Following further inquiries, a 13-year-old boy was arrested about 1.10pm yesterday and was and taken to Albury Police Station where he charged with commit s a 154A offence and disseminate (post and boast), robbery armed with offensive weapon, aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence-armed, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

He was refused bail to appear in a children's court today (Tuesday 4 February 2025).
