Two Charged in App-Based Drug Trafficking Probe

Major Drug Squad detectives have charged two people this week following an investigation into the trafficking of drugs in Victoria via an encrypted app.

The investigation commenced in October 2024 after intelligence was received from the Cybercrime Squad about online drug trafficking.

Police will allege drugs of dependence are trafficked via 'channels' on an encrypted social networking platform.

A search warrant was executed at a residential address in Ivanhoe on Wednesday, 12 February.

A 28-year-old Ivanhoe man was charged with traffick commercial quantity methylamphetamine, possess methylamphetamine, traffick commercial quantity 1,4-Butanediol, possess 1,4-Butanediol, traffick cannabis, possess cannabis, traffick/possess prescription medication, knowingly and negligently deal proceeds of crime, failure to comply with 465AA order and two counts of possess prohibited weapon.

He was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 7 May.

A 32-year-old Doncaster East woman was charged with possess methylamphetamine.

She was bailed to appear at Heidelberg Magistrates' Court on 1 May.

Investigators seized a significant quantity of cash, a commercial quantity of methylamphetamine, a commercial quantity of 1,4-Butanediol and various quantities of cannabis, prescription medication including Xanax, Diazepam, Oxycodone, Tapentadol, Alprazolam, Lorazepam and Clonazepam, as well as a cash counting machine, a conducted electricity device (Taser) and a knuckle duster with an attached flick knife.
