Two people are due in court today charged after a supermarket employee was stabbed at Riverstone.
Emergency services were called to the supermarket on Garfield Road about 4.15pm yesterday (Sunday 28 January 2024), found a 47-year-old man suffering stab wounds to his side and chest.
He remains in a stable condition in Westmead Hospital after undergoing surgery.
Officers from Riverstone Police Area Command arrived within minutes and arrested a 31-year-old man and 21-year-old woman.
They were taken to Riverstone Police Station where the man was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, while the woman was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and larceny.
Police will allege in court the staff member was stabbed – and a second employee punched in the face – when they tried to stop two people suspected of shoplifting.
The man, who is from Fairfield East, and woman, from Wetherill Park, were refused bail overnight to appear in Blacktown Local Court today (Monday 29 January 2024).
A knife seized at the scene has been sent for forensic examination.
