A man and woman will appear in court today charged after 2.5kg of cannabis was seized from a vehicle at a checkpoint on the NSW/Victoria border.
Just after midnight yesterday (Sunday 4 October 2020), officers deployed in Tooleybuc for Operation Border Closure stopped a white Hyundai Accent on the Tooleybuc Bridge.
Police spoke to the driver, a 39-year-old woman, and passenger, a 35-year-old man, who were both allegedly unable to produce a valid permit to enter NSW.
During a search of the vehicle, police located 2.5kg of cannabis in the boot. It's been seized to undergo forensic examination.
Officers from Barrier Police District attended and the man and woman were arrested and taken to Dareton Police Station.
The man and woman, from Casula, have been charged with take part supply cannabis have been refused bail to appear in Dubbo Local Court today (Monday 5 October 2020).
Meanwhile, police are reminding motorists travelling between New South Wales and South Australia, that they cannot transit through Victoria.
While the NSW/VIC border zone was extended on Thursday (1 October 2020), travel to these areas is only permitted for border region resident permit holders.
The best direct route to cross the NSW/SA border is via the Barrier Highway at Broken Hill. If you travel through Victoria, including the border zone – 'border bubble' – NSW residents will be denied re-entry into NSW without a current entry permit or authorisation to enter under the Public Health Order.
