Two people are in custody and a loaded firearm has been seized following a police operation south of Sydney this morning, NSW Police say.
Police were alerted to an apparent domestic violence-related incident involving a man and woman from two vehicles outside a home in Dwyer Road, Leppington, about 7.30am (Friday 31 August 2018).
A resident who attempted to intervene was threatened with a firearm and shot was fired towards him. No one was injured.
Both vehicles – a utility and a blue Subaru – left the scene and were intercepted by a Highway Patrol vehicle and a pursuit was initiated when the drivers failed to stop as directed.
The vehicles were followed to Edmondson Park, where the pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.
Specialist police units were called to assist including the police airwing, PolAir, and the utility was later sighted at the intersection of Corfield Road and Camden Valley Way at Edmondson Park where it crashed about 8.10am into a Suzuki Swift.
Police took two men into custody from the utility and a loaded firearm was seized.
A woman from the Swift – which is unrelated to the first incident – was trapped within the wreckage before being released about 9am. She has been taken to Liverpool Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The blue Subaru was found in a street in Edmondson Park a short time ago and has been seized for forensic examination.
Police are now waiting to talk with a woman who they believe may be involved in the original DV incident.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
