Two men have been arrested for hindering police following a serious crash in Sydney's west.
Shortly before 7.30pm yesterday (Thursday 31 August 2023), emergency services responded to reports of a vehicle catching fire after a crashing into a tree at the intersection of Pendock Road and Sherringham Road, Cranebrook.
Several bystanders removed the three male occupants from the vehicle.
Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the vehicle fire.
Prior to the arrival of emergency services, an occupant from the vehicle left the location and was last seen on foot along Pendock Road.
Another occupant – 12-year-old boy - was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics. He was taken to Nepean Hospital with a broken leg and hip injuries
Officers from Nepean Police Area Command secured a crime scene and were informed that immediately after the crash two men attended and placed a third occupant into a shopping trolley before leaving the scene.
A short time later NSW Ambulance paramedics were called to a home on Rosannah Way, Cranebrook, where a man could be heard yelling in distress from within the premises.
When paramedics were refused entry into the home police were contacted to assist who were also refused entry.
Due to concerns for the man's welfare officers from the Public Order Riot Squad have forced entry into the home. Once inside it will be alleged two men – aged 40 and 55 – hindered police where capsicum spray was used. A Taser was also deployed on an aggressive dog.
Officers located the man – who is yet to be formally identified - inside the home where he was treated by paramedics for a broken leg and head lacerations and taken to Westmead Hospital. He has also undergone mandatory testing.
The 40 and 55-year-old men were arrested and taken to Mt Druitt Police Station and charged with hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.
They have been granted conditional bail to appear at Penrith Local Court. The older man is due to appear on Thursday 14 September 2023 whilst the younger man is due to appear on Thursday 21 September 2023.
Inquiries have established that the vehicle was stolen from a home at a Cranebrook address during a break and enter about 3.45am last Wednesday (30 August 2023). The residents of the home were asleep at the time and not disturbed.
Both the 12-year-old boy and the other man are in a serious but stable condition.
The dog was uninjured and left in the care of a neighbour.
Specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash as well as attempting to identify the driver of the vehicle.
