Two men have been charged after police seized a loaded firearm and illicit drugs which were located in hidden compartments of a vehicle, NSW Police say.
In early 2016, the State Crime Command’s Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad (MEOCS) established Strike Force Kentgrove to proactively target organised criminal activities across Sydney.
From 7am yesterday (30 August 2017), police from MEOCS’ general duties and highway patrol teams conducted high-visibility patrols in south-west Sydney.
About 11.20am, officers stopped behind a Toyota Prado on Prospect Street, Rosehill, and two men exited the vehicle.
Police spoke with the men before conducting a search of the Prado, where they located a hidden compartment containing 2.3kg of cannabis.
With the assistance of the Dog Unit, police located another compartment within the vehicle, which was not accessible.
The Prado was seized and searched at another location, where police located a loaded semi-automatic handgun, ammunition and cocaine.
Both men – aged 29 and 32 – were arrested and taken to Parramatta Police Station, where they were charged with possess loaded firearm public place, possess unauthorised pistol, possess ammunition without licence/permit, and two counts of supply prohibited drug.
They were refused bail and appeared at Parramatta Local Court, where they were formally refused bail to reappear at the same court next Tuesday (29 August 2017).
Inquiries are continuing.
Police are urging anyone with information in relation to drug supply in the community to call Crime Stoppers.
