Two men have been charged with property and knife-related offences following a vehicle stop in Sydney's west last night.
Operation Ensure is an ongoing high-visibility police operation undertaken by the North West Metropolitan Region, targeting serious knife, youth and gang related crime.
About 7pm on Thursday (12 December 2024), officers were patrolling the Great Western Highway, Eastern Creek, when they stopped a vehicle due to the manner of driving.
Police spoke with the driver, a 45-year-old man, and his passenger, a 25-year-old man, and inquiries revealed the driver was subject to a Firearms Prohibition Order.
During a search of the men and the vehicle, officers allegedly located and seized multiple knives, a balaclava, a crowbar, an axe, a claw hammer, multiple screwdrivers, two registration plates and 17 credit and debit cards alleged to be stolen or unlawfully obtained.
The two men were arrested and taken to Blacktown Police Station.
The older man was charged with goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (motor vehicle), possess housebreaking implements, and custody of knife in public place.
The younger man was charged with eight offences including:
- Custody of knife in public place (three counts),
- Larceny (two counts),
- Receive property-theft equals serious indictable offence less than equal to $5000, and
- Armed with intent commit indictable offence and commit s114 offence, having previous conviction.
Both men were refused bail to appear before Blacktown Local Court today (Friday 13 December 2024).
