Police have charged two men in relation to an evade police incident on the Bass Highway at Wivenhoe yesterday.
Police allege that around 4.15pm they detected a white MG hatch travelling west on the Bass Highway at 110km/h in the 80km/h zone.
Police attempted to intercept the vehicle which evaded police and crossed into the eastbound lanes of traffic, in the direction of oncoming traffic. The MG subsequently mounted a concrete island whilst crossing back into the westbound lanes and sustained damage.
Two occupants of the MG were arrested in the rear carpark of Bunnings Burnie without incident.
A 35-year-old man from Burnie has been charged with trespass, destroy property, burglary, stealing, motor vehicle stealing, and attempt to unlawful set fire to property. He was bailed to appear before the Burnie Magistrates Court at a later date.
A 29-year-old man from Wynyard has been charged with evade police, dangerous driving, burglary, stealing, trespass, destroy property, motor vehicle stealing, aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, attempt to unlawfully set fire to property, and drive whilst disqualified. He was detained to appear before the Burnie Magistrates Court.
