Two Men Charged With Firearms Offences After Pursuit

Two men have been charged with firearm offences following an alleged police pursuit in Sydney's eastern suburbs.

About 8.20am today (Thursday 25 July 2024), officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command were called to George Street, Dover Heights, following reports a man wearing a balaclava had approached a driver's car carrying a pistol.

A short time later, the male left the scene in a car.

Following inquiries, police observed the vehicle travelling along Old South Head Road, Bondi and attempted to stop it, however, the driver allegedly failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.

The vehicle came to stop on Old South Head Road, Bondi, where a 20-year-old male driver was apprehended.

Police allege a 24-year-old passenger of the vehicle resisted arrest and fled the scene on foot before he was arrested on Banksia Road, Bellevue Hill a short time later.

The vehicle was searched, and police found two pistols among other items.

The men were arrested and taken to Waverley Police Station.

The 24-year-old man was charged with:

  • Possess loaded firearm public place
  • Possess unauthorised pistol
  • Possess more than one unregistered unauthorised firearm in public place
  • Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority
  • Not keep firearm safely - pistol
  • Be carried in conveyance taken with consent of owner
  • Passenger not occupy seat with seatbelt (16 years or older)
  • Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal)
  • Assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm
  • Two counts of hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty

The 20-year-old man was charged with:

  • Possess unauthorised pistol
  • Posses loaded firearm public place
  • Possess more than one unregistered unauthorised firearm in public place
  • Police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly
  • Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner
  • Not keep firearm safely - pistol
  • Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority
  • Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal)

The men were refused bail to appear at Waverley Local Court tomorrow (Friday 26 July 2024).
