Exploring the horizons of scientific knowledge to integrate the three major thematic areas of the study of the brain - the healthy brain, the pathological brain and the artificial brain - is the aim of the 2nd International Multi-Brain Barcelona Congress, which will be held at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona from 13 to 14 November, both under a face-to-face format and online.
This year, the meeting reaches its second edition, and it is a pioneering proposal in the field of the study of the brain from an integrative perspective. It has been organized by a committee of experts made up of Ruth de Diego Balaguer and Joanna Maria Sierpowska, from the UB's Faculty of Psychology, and Guadalupe Soria, Mercedes Massana, Cristina Malagelada and Juan Alberto Ortega, from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the UB Institute of Neurosciences (UBNeuro).
The opening ceremony will take place 13 November at 9.00 a.m. in the Paranymph Hall of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, with the participation of Professor Jordi Alberch, director of the UBNeuro; Antoni Trilla, dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and Joan Gómez, director general of research of the Government of Catalonia. This will be followed by the plenary lecture entitled "Navigating conceptual spaces: Recicling the brain GPS for higher-level cognition", by researcher Manuela Piazza, (CIMeC, University of Trento, Italy).
Deciphering the complexity of human brain function
The II International Multi-Brain Barcelona Congress will bring together neuroscientists from all over the world from different disciplines (medicine, psychology, pharmacy, chemistry, physics, mathematics, engineering and computer science) and also patients. Its main objective is sharing new discoveries and generating synergies to advance in the field of knowledge of the brain.
This forum will be the setting to discuss the most recent advances in evolutionary neuroscience, brain development, neurotechnologies and challenges in pathological brain research, with the aim of generating benefits to health, the well-being of people and scientific knowledge about these areas of biomedicine.
The closing session, which will include the participation of professors Mercè Massana and Ruth de Diego (UB-UBneuro), will feature Guillermina López-Bendito (CSIC, Institute of Neurosciences, Universidad Miguel Hernández), who will give the lecture "Emerging Sensory Circuits: The Interplay of Spontaneous Activity and Genetic Programs".
