Houston Woman Magazine recently paid tribute to 50 inspiring leaders in the nation's fourth largest city. For the University of Houston community, it should come as no surprise that a proud Cougar is ranked among other visionaries within the nation's fourth largest city.

UH Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost Diane Z. Chase is part of Houston Woman Magazine's 50 Most Influential Women of 2024. This list of local luminaries is spotlighted as Houston Woman Magazine celebrates its 21st anniversary.

"It is certainly an honor to be nominated to this list of amazing women," Chase said. "In truth, the University deserves much of the credit for this honor. Each day, I am motivated by the faculty, staff and students of UH. They inspire me to work hard and support the success of this amazing University."

Chase joined the University as its chief academic officer in 2023. An accomplished scholar and academic leader, she oversees the Office of the Provost and Division of Academic Affairs. Her role also includes oversight of UH's academic programming and the implementation of the University's strategic plan. She also holds the title of UH System (UHS) senior vice chancellor for academic affairs supporting the academic quality of all UHS institutions (UH-Clear Lake, UH-Downtown and UH-Victoria).

In addition to her leadership roles at UH and the UH System, Chase is a renowned archaeologist. Alongside husband and UH faculty member Arlen Chase, she conducts extensive research at the archaeological site Caracol in Belize.

Chase and fellow nominees were celebrated during a recent banquet attended by Houston Mayor and UH alumnus John Whitmire. He offered his congratulations to honorees in person and in a greeting within Houston Woman Magazine.

"Houston is home to countless successful women dedicated to enhancing our city's quality of life," Whitmire wrote. "The 50 women featured in the 2024 edition possess extensive social and professional networks and have earned distinguished reputations in their respective fields."

In addition to Chase, the round-up of notable professionals includes physicians, CEOs, entrepreneurs, community leaders and other Houston-area influencers.

"It is gratifying to have my name next to so many great minds within our city," Chase said. "All of these honorees are contributing to their respective industries and the growth of our city. I am grateful to Houston Woman Magazine for including me on its annual list of leaders and for spotlighting so many talented women in our community."
