Enthusiastic interest in UK education at the education conference in Ashgabat from 10 to 12 October 2023.
Following an invitation from the Turkmen Education Ministry, the British Embassy showcased the UK's education programmes and some of the different education institutions in the UK. We were pleased that Professor Andrew Linn, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Head of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at the University of Westminster and Dr Siddharth Saxena from the University of Cambridge were able to attend the event.
There was considerable interest from Turkmen students in studying in the UK and the Chevening scholarships. There was also interest in the John Smith Trust fellowships and the opportunities it provides to contribute positively to society. The stand also had information about schools in the UK offering A-level studies.
British Ambassador Stephen Conlon said:
I was impressed with the level of English that the students have and the enthusiasm for UK education programmes. My team and I are keen to support UK Universities who want to promote their courses or organise partnerships in Turkmenistan. This fair demonstrates that there is a strong untapped demand for British education.
Applications for the Chevening scholarships are now open for the 2024/25 academic year. We welcome applications from interested candidates across Turkmenistan and we are seeking passionate people able to demonstrate their commitment to creating positive change. Application deadline is 7 November 2023.
