British Ambassador to Guatemala, Juliana Correa, met with women and girls who are improving their lives with the help of a UK funded project.
Ambassador Correa visited the premises of the organization La Alianza Guatemala (ALA) which is implementing a project that provides protection and specialized care for girls, adolescents, and young women affected by sexual violence, human trafficking, and situations of human mobility in Guatemala.
The UK funded project will reach 175 beneficiaries in Guatemala (Mixco) and Quetzaltenango (Coatepeque), who will be receiving social assistance, individual and group psychological therapy, counselling, accompaniment and follow-up of legal cases, including support with immigration procedures.
This project also includes the implementation of prevention and training activities with a focus on human rights. The prevention efforts will extend to the community and municipal levels to generate actions that would reduce violence and exploitation in all its forms, ensuring the safe reintegration of the victims who have been assisted.
Ambassador Correa learned about the challenges faced by some of these women and girls and highlighted the United Kingdom's commitment to protecting their rights in Guatemala and around the world as one of the main priorities of the British Foreign Office (FCDO).
