UN Chief Visits Geneva February 24-26

Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset will pay an official visit to Geneva, Switzerland, from 24 to 26 February as part of the process of stepping up co-operation between the Council of Europe and the international institutions based there.

The programme will begin on 24 February with a lecture at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID), in which the Secretary General will discuss the key issues relating to human rights, democracy and the rule of law in Europe, and the Council of Europe's role in tackling current global challenges.

On 25 February, he will take part in the meeting of the UN Human Rights Council, speaking during the high-level segment. On that occasion, he will also hold talks with several government representatives with a view to strengthening co-operation regarding human rights and democratic governance.

The Secretary General will continue his meetings, on 26 February, with Geneva-based international organisations, thereby consolidating dialogue between the Council of Europe and its international partners.
