GENEVA - The UN Special Rapporteur on the sale, sexual exploitation and sexual abuse of children, Mama Fatima Singhateh, will visit Germany from 14 to 25 October 2024.
Issues Singhateh will examine will include sexual exploitation and abuse of children within the circle of trust and within communities, child-trafficking for sexual exploitation -- including in the context of travel and tourism -- and online child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Singhateh will hold discussions in Berlin, Dusseldorf, Cologne and Wiesbaden with representatives of federal and state authorities, including the executive, legislature and judiciary, German Institute for Human Rights, civil society organisations and networks, academia and children and youth care centres. She will also meet with children during her visit.
The Special Rapporteur will hold a press conference at the end of her visit, on 25 October at 15.00 local time at UNICEF Berlin (Schumannstraße 18, 10117 Berlin), to share her preliminary observations. Access will be strictly limited to journalists.
She will present a comprehensive report of her country visit to the Human Rights Council in March 2026.
