GENEVA - UN Special Rapporteur on the right to health, Tlaleng Mofokeng, will conduct an official visit to Chile from 21 November to 4 December 2024.
During the 10-day visit, Mofokeng will observe best practices and challenges in the right to health.
The Special Rapporteur will hold meetings with government representatives, indigenous communities, civil society and others to assess the availability, accessibility, acceptability and quality of healthcare.
The visit will focus on access to healthcare and underlying determinants of health, with particular attention to marginalised populations in the country. Mofokeng will visit public hospitals and clinics and a detention centre. She will travel to Santiago, Osorno, Temuco and Valparaiso during the visit.
Mofokeng will host a press conference on 4 December 2024 at 11AM (local time) at the headquarters of the Regional Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Santiago, to share her preliminary observations. Access will be strictly limited to journalists.
The Special Rapporteur will present her report to the UN Human Rights Council in June 2025.
