"We are extremely proud of our researchers who are leading crucial investigations across nearly every domain of human health and medicine," said Blossom Damania, PhD, vice dean for research at the UNC School of Medicine. "NIH funding is one measure of our school's success. Another measure of success is found in our collaborative efforts across disciplines at the school and throughout UNC-Chapel Hill, which would be impossible without our dedicated faculty, graduate students, postdocs, and staff, all working toward a better understanding of human health and disease each day."
The total amount of research funding to the school, including from the NIH, stands at more than half a billion dollars and accounts for more than half of the research funding to UNC-Chapel Hill.
The UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health is ranked 4th in total NIH funding, 1st among public universities. The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is ranked 2nd behind UC-San Francisco.
