Department of State

Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security Ambassador Bonnie D. Jenkins will travel to Ottawa, Canada on October 9-11 to attend a conference, "Cooperative Threat and Risk Reduction in a New Global Context," at Carleton University. This conference is sponsored by Global Affairs Canada and the Stimson Center and will highlight the global threat landscape and assess the work of the Global Partnership Against the Spread of Weapons and Materials of Mass Destruction (GP) over the past two decades.

While there, Under Secretary Jenkins will deliver remarks that emphasize the United States' commitment to the GP and our strong partnership with Canada and highlight U.S. efforts to reduce WMD threats in Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, and beyond. Under Secretary Jenkins will also discuss the need for the GP to evolve to meet new and emerging threats and reflect on how two decades of the GP's achievements can be leveraged for future global threat reduction.

On the margins of this conference, Under Secretary Jenkins will meet with Canadian counterparts to discuss the strong and continued partnership between the United States and Canada on weapons of mass destruction threat reduction and nonproliferation programming.
