Unions welcome isolation payment

Unions NSW

The State's unions have welcomed the NSW Government's belated decision decision to introduce a test and isolate payment for workers in lockdown.

Unions NSW Secretary Mark Morey said: "It is reassuring to see the NSW Government heed the calls of unions and health experts by agreeing to this payment.

"While the $320 payment is less generous and more limited than the Victorian policy it is nonetheless progress.

"The link between economic security and health outcomes is crystal clear. When workers face a financial penalty to test or get vaccinated, it gives the virus more chance to spread. This payment is welcome, if overdue recognition of tension.

"No worker should have to choose between putting food on the table or getting tested for COVID.

"We now reiterate our call to the Premier to push for universal vaccination leave for all Australian workers."
