"Professor Haymet is a bold and experienced advocate for science and evidence on tackling issues from energy security and climate change to oceans and natural disaster prediction," said Universities Australia Chief Executive Luke Sheehy.
"As Minister Husic highlighted, Professor Haymet must harness Australia's science and research community to solve the pressing problems we face.

Australia's universities deliver nearly all of Australia's discovery research (87 per cent), a significant portion of applied research (45 per cent) and 36 per cent of Australia's total R&D output.
Universities Australia acknowledges Dr Cathy Foley's enormous contribution and achievements during her term as Chief Scientist including around quantum technologies, inspiring the next generation and advocacy for women in STEM.
