UNITAR Sudan Program Seeks Applicants for Livelihood Dev

14 August 2024, Hiroshima, Japan - Motivated Sudanese nationals, especially those who are internally displaced, are invited to apply to join the UNITAR training programme "Promoting Socioeconomic Stability through Institutional Capacity and Livelihood Development in Sudan." The programme aims to equip participants with skills in agribusiness, entrepreneurship, innovation, finance and trade and digital literacy to "build back better", irrespective of where they are. The application deadline is 25 August 2024.

The programme will run from 26 August 2024 to 28 March 2025 and will be delivered in Arabic and English. The training is free of charge, thanks to the generous financial support of the Government and People of Japan.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of the programme, learners will be equipped with:

  • Importance of digital assets, technology and platforms for business growth
  • Public-private partnerships - establishing collaborations for sustainable networks that boost access to resources, materials, technology, markets and know-how

  • Navigating adversity, overcoming challenges and building back better (through Hiroshima's transformational journey)

PHASES OF THE PROGRAMME

The programme will be delivered in the following three phases.

Phase I: "Resilient Growth for Prosperous Futures" (7-months, asynchronous training)

In this phase, 150 selected learners will work on online learning modules on

  • Entrepreneurship and innovation
  • Digital literacy to turbocharge businesses
  • Building back better: lessons from Hiroshima's transformational post-World War II reconstruction

At the end, participants will submit a detailed project plan.

Phase II: "The Resilient Squad" (1-month, boot camp and hackathon)

The top 40 performers chosen from Phase I will take part in a week-long intensive online boot camp with guidance from experts, followed by a two-day virtual hackathon. Coaches and experts will review the submitted proposals and select the top 20 most viable businesses.

Phase III: "Resilient Futures for Peace & Prosperity" (1-month, virtual conference)

All participants from Phase I, as well as potential investors, experts and members of the Sudanese diaspora, will be invited to watch the top 20 present their business pitches in a one-day virtual conference.

ELIGIBILITY AND HOW TO APPLY

The programme is open to Sudanese nationals, with a special focus on internally displaced people. Selection criteria include:

  • Interest in digital technologies, livelihood development, entrepreneurship, innovation, public works or similar areas that fuel economic growth and aid nation-building
  • Age: over 18 years of age
  • Passion for experiential learning and highly motivated to develop solutions to the ongoing economic crisis in the country
  • Verbal and writing skills in English or Arabic
  • Access to a computer or smartphone with internet connection
