As universities around Australia kick off a new academic year, the sector should be aiming for educational excellence.
The Australian Higher Education Industrial Association (AHEIA) said more than a million students will be back on campuses around the country from this week and the focus of the students and the university needs to be high quality learning.
"We know that our universities deliver world standard learning and environment, because several of our institutions have achieved high world rankings," the Executive Director of AHEIA, Craig Laughton, said today.
"I hope the new year will see groups that operate within our sector take the opportunity to work more closely together and develop and apply proposals that improve educational outcomes in a collegiate manner."
Mr. Laughton said that Australia's universities provided an education for more than 1.4 million local and international students each year.
"To meet that task they employ more than 144,000 people in the city and regional areas and are employers of choice, injecting billions into the national economy. Our aim is to be exemplary employers," he said.
