University Of Southern California And Penn State

University of Southern California

USC and Penn State first played each other in football in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day 1923, with the Trojan toppling the Nittany Lions 14-3. Since then, the two teams have met nine times, with USC leading the series 6-4. Off the field, the two schools have partnered on multiple projects and collaborative efforts.

Earlier this year, a team of researchers from the USC Viterbi School of Engineering and the Penn State College of Earth and Mineral Sciences received funding from the National Science Foundation to establish a center for geologic carbon storage. The CO2 Storage Modeling, Analytics, and Risk Reduction Technologies is led by Behnam Jafarpour, professor of chemical engineering and material science at USC Viterbi, and is dedicated to "advancing safe and cost-effective geologic carbon dioxide storage science and technologies by establishing a cooperative research program among university partners, government, industry, national labs and foundations."

USC takes on Penn State on Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (TV: Big Ten Network; radio: KSPN-AM 710).
