The Australian String Quartet is taking to the stage across Europe this month with its first performance at the International String Quartet Biennale in Amsterdam this week.
A partner of the University of Adelaide, it holds the position of 'quartet in residence' at the University.
The ASQ will present three unique programs at the biennale, featuring six works by Australian composers including the world premiere of Nyilamum-song cycles, a First Nations-led work by Yorta Yorta Dja Dja Wurrung, Dr Lou Bennett AM, co-composed with Paul Stanhope
Further engagements in the Netherlands include a reception at the Australian embassy and an appearance on national Dutch radio.
Following the biennale, the quartet will travel to Italy where they will perform at the iconic Quirinale Palace and at high-profile diplomatic engagements for the Australian Embassy in Rome and the Australian Embassy to the Holy See.
According to ASQ Chief Executive Angelina Zucco, the European performances provide a major opportunity for the ASQ to build its international connections made possible through the generous support of Arts South Australia and the Australian Embassy in Rome.
