Unlawful use of a vehicle and burglary charges at Kanimbla

Officers from the Cairns Property Crime Squad charged a 20-year-old Mount Louisa man at about 2am today (April 13) with one count each of burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, common assault and stealing.

Police will allege two people forced entry to a home in Kanimbla at about 2.30am yesterday (April 13) before stealing items from inside the home, including car keys. The pair stole a vehicle from the home, not before the owner woke, chased the offenders down his driveway and jumped into the back of the vehicle's utility.

Police allege the man attempted to negotiate the with pair, however they drove dangerously before dumping the vehicle in Marchant Street, Manoora and fleeing on foot.

An unmarked police patrol came across the stolen car and the victim before taking his complaint.

Police investigations are continuing in relation to the second man with police releasing CCTV of a man who could assist them with their investigations.

The 20-year-old man is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today.
