UNSC to Vote on Renewing Libya Coast Vessel Interception

This afternoon, Security Council members are expected to vote on a draft resolution renewing the authorization granted by resolution 2240 (2015), allowing Member States, acting in their national capacity or through regional organisations, to intercept vessels off the coast of Libya suspected of migrant smuggling or human trafficking. The Council will hear briefings from Pär Liljert, Director of the International Organization for Migration, and from Sivanka Dhanapala, Director of the New York Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
