Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun has welcomed the University of NSW's decision to set up a study hub in Liverpool.
"Liverpool is definitely Sydney's university city," Mayor Mannoun said.
UNSW, Notre Dame, the University of Wollongong, and Western Sydney University have all made Liverpool their home.
"The new Hub will build on the UNSW's long-standing presence in Southwest Sydney, strengthening partnerships with universities, TAFE, and local institutions to expand access to higher education and support the region's thriving workforce," he said.
"Having university campuses in Liverpool, NSW, is a significant boost for the local community.
"It fosters economic growth by creating job opportunities for faculty, staff, and support services.
"The presence of universities attracts students from various regions, increasing demand for housing, transport, and retail services.
"This revitalizes the local economy and supports small businesses and encourages cultural diversity, as students bring different perspectives and experiences," Mayor Mannoun said.
Background
The UNSW Liverpool Suburban University Study Hub will serve as a vital space for local students.
Liverpool is the leading growth area in health and education across the Western Sydney region.
The Liverpool Hub will benefit from existing strong partnerships between key educational institutions, including UNSW, TAFE NSW, and other universities, which are already connected through the Liverpool Innovation Precinct.
This collaborative, vertically integrated education model will provide students with clear pathways to various career opportunities, from vocational education and training through to higher education and beyond.
The Hub will provide a range of job opportunities across academia, administration and students support services, driving economic growth and fostering community development and is expected to be operational in the second half of 2025.
