The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has awarded Glenn Hanson and Dan Probert from the University of Wollongong with its Academic Excellence Scholarship for 2024.
Awarded annually, the $10,000 scholarship is provided to students who demonstrates academic excellence while studying a Master of Maritime Policy or Graduate Certificate in Maritime Studies Programs.
Glenn and Dan are 2 of 7 students that AMSA is supporting this year as part of its annual scholarship program which promotes the development of skills and knowledge in the maritime industry.
AMSA Chief Executive Officer, Mick Kinley, said having skilled professionals in maritime policy is critical to supporting the growth and development of Australia's maritime industry, and AMSA as its safety regulator.
"Policy, both domestic and international, informs the way the maritime industry operates and is regulated," Mr Kinley said."Our Academic Excellence Scholarship is one way that we're supporting a steady stream of skilled and experienced professionals in this area of the maritime sector."
Director of the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS) at the University of Wollongong, Distinguished Professor Stuart Kaye, said the university is grateful for the assistance provided by AMSA and for its longstanding relationship with the maritime regulator.
"We are proud of the strong relationship we have with AMSA and thankful for the financial assistance provided to our students, enabling them to critically analyse and explore the factors that contribute to the development of the law of the sea and maritime policy."
